Post Art O'Neill Challenge 2023

I go into detail on how I got in the Art O’Neill Challenge 2023 on the Any Given Runday Podcast. You can listen to that episode on Apple Podcasts HERE or Spotify HERE. This excerpt was from an Instagram post a few hours after the event.

We post the good and the bad race days, so here we go.

Even though the fitness wasn’t there in comparison to recent months, the rain never stopped, and the hills and suffering started from the 10k mark or so; I was thoroughly enjoying the Art O’Neill Challenge. While physically feeling the effects of it, mentally, I was in a good place.

And then, I got to the navigation stage. With very little visibility, I felt like I was walking in a river and second-guessed myself on a few critical decisions… and went the wrong way each and every time. The 12k between checkpoints somehow turned into an agonising 5 hours. My Strava map is painful to look at.

Entirely my fault and something I never considered until the final few hours, but I missed the check-off point by a good 50 minutes. Let myself down by changing the plan in the middle of the night. And knowing that was why I missed the cut off felt like complete 💩

And on that note, back on the farm and a few hours of sleep to catch up on 💤
