What to look out for with New Years Gym, Personal Trainers and Boot Camp Offers

Hope you had a great Christmas and are enjoying the break.

In today's blog post:
- What to look out for with the offers from gyms, boot camps, and Personal Trainers for New Year and how not to fall for their traps
- The BS of bad fitness products and packages along with the foundation of a good one

Calm before the Storm
With it being New Year's Eve, it's usually the calm before the storm for gyms, personal trainers and boot camps. A lot are getting ready to sell you the idea that their way is the only way you can get fit and stronger.

This should be where I am going to try to sell you on one of my online packages, a package through Any Given Training Day or a Boot Camp membership.

And I'm sure I will be plugging something in these newsletters over the weeks and months ahead.

But not today.

Instead, I want to tell you what to look out for. How to avoid going for the "shiny new thing" that promises to solve all your fitness problems. But before I do that, I want to quickly go over what helps me with my fitness/life goals.

Before I set my goals for 2022, I always look back over the previous years' fitness goals. Why I set them, whether I achieved them and then think about why I did/didn't hit that target. Only by doing that can I reassess my goals for this upcoming year with more perspective and potentially learn from previous mistakes.

So what do you want out of your training and why?

Because, without that why and a sense of enjoying the fitness journey, you are not going to be consistent in your training and develop the necessary routines to keep striving towards those goals.

Bad vs good fitness programmes
While there are bad programmes out there, any programme can work. You need to find the one that aligns with you. We all know that person who swears by running because they lost a lot of weight doing it. Or someone who did intermittent fasting. You will have people swear that their way is the only way because it worked for them, but it might not work for you. Maybe you absolutely hate running and have no desire to ever be good at it. Are you going to stick with that? If you are doing shift work or long days in your job, intermittent fasting may not be the answer for you.

Look back at your goals over this year and think about why they may not have been accomplished and what would you may need to change in 2022 if you want to achieve the same goals.

So watch out for any programme that claims to be revolutionary in its approach. At the end of the day, similar exercises that are repeated with a progression to them over time will work. It's not the fanciest thing, but it is effective. With nutrition, if fat loss is your goal, know that ALL diet plans work by lowering overall calories. There are no exceptions.

And stay away from extremely low-calorie diets!
That "fat-burning" detox juice? Yeah, that works because you're on a silly low number of calories a day. Is that really sustainable?

If it's not sustainable, and you are not enjoying the process, you won't stick to it!

And on that note, Happy New Year! Back to regular newsletters from Sunday. Until then, have a great weekend!
