Embrace the suck

Not a fan of New Years Resolutions but, since we’re at 2021, I think this is the most important thing you can take out of your fitness goals: you’re gonna suck!

If you’re getting back into running, you’re gonna suck… at first. You’re going to be huffing and puffing. Your heart is going to be racing. And you’re going to feel like crap (no where near as bad when you listen to our upcoming podcast episode with our Any Given Training Day Running Coach @smythrachael … but that’s for another post)

Today. I went for a cycle. And I sucked. There were times along the cycle where I looked down at my watch and realized that I could run fast than I was going. I thought my back wheel was squeaking, about to fall over, only to turn around in time to see someone comfortably pass me out.

I struggled like hell.

But progress is a slow process. I knew I’d suck. If I went out with expectations of being great, I’d be down on myself. But I know the journey ahead. And things can only get better!

Time to take the positives:

1) Used cleats for the first time ever and didn’t fall off

2) Finished my intended route

3) Got to the top of a bitch of a hill without having to get off the bike

4) And most important, got out there on the bike in the first place!

Embrace the suck, embrace the journey, take it at your pace and don’t aim to achieve everything in January!
