Strive for Progress, not Perfection

Strive for progress, not perfection.

Unless you are competing in a physique contest, making progress in your training and diet is much better than aiming for perfection.

When we aim for perfection in every exercise, rep and meal, the feeling we get when we inevitably come up short can have a knock on effect. “If I can’t do it perfectly, what’s the point in doing it all?”. This can create a negative attitude and too much pressure to our health and fitness challenges.

But if we are on track 80% of the time, the pressure is not as great. We can afford to have a little slip up here and there and still be positive about it. And, let’s face it, one “bad” meal is not going to ruin our progress.

It all depends on where you are in your journey. If you eat fast food 2-3 times a week. Limiting that down to 1 is progress. If you have 2-3 cans of coke a day, 1 is progress. Making small wins will add up and over time, you’ll see greater, long lasting results. Going cold turkey on all your “bad” habits that you have built up over years to try and be 100% perfect in everything you eat is not going to work.

Make small steps in your goals and you are moving in the right direction
